Something Else, Some Day

Two Poems from Sticky Time by Alex Moreno

Getting Better

Here's a confession:
self-obsession, sometimes
only on the day moon
when I forget to sleep.

Watery palms up for what I need—
floss away screened instants,
drink the space next to the stars
instead of posting endings
cus the rot pollutes my—PLEASE

say how I'm supposed to be…
…unzip from the weeks,
…accept it's all a function,
…kill your numbers,

I want nothing.

You didn’t ask but…

if you rub garlic on your feet
the test results will be negative,
in that you're not going to die
from that,
or that,
but something else,
some day,
from plastic gutted fish,
harassing the internet:
Did god make time?
Was Nothing before god?
Or beyond,
or not,
uncreated creator—
Please.

I saw you at the show,
I told you a secret,
I peed in my car, and now we have the same optometrist.

ALEX MORENO'S work explores emotional processes through surrealism, visceral interiority, and synesthetic play. Sticky Time (Sunflower Station Press) is her debut poetry book. You can also find her writing in Spectra Poets, Lit Angels, and Dream Boy Book Club. She earned a BA from Bowdoin College, eats 1-2 apples a day, and really likes it.
